Does anyone know who has the cheapest PHD online programs?

Does anyone know who has the cheapest doctorate programs that are online? I am interested in a Psychology program and have been looking at Northcentral University. They seem to be about the cheapest "regionally" accredited school online.

I'm going to be honest, I'm not sure why you would want to get an Online PHD in Psychology. Unlike Bachelor's and some Master's degrees, PhD's are more about original, independent research than coursework. I'm afraid an online PhD would basically be a "diploma factory". A PhD from an online only school is likely going to be met with a lot of skepticism.

Online universities are wonderful for working professionals and busy parents, but PhD research just isn't well suited for it. Consider looking in to your local stat universities instead.

There are several regionally accredited online universities. University of the Rockies, Walden University and Argosy are just a few. Fielding actually has a PhD in Clinical Psych that is accredited by the American Psychological Association.

There is a lot of misconception about online programs but as long as they meet the same standards of accreditation that public universities meet, then you will get out of it what you put into it. Be sure the school is regionally accredited, be sure that if you are looking at getting licensed you check out the laws in your state. Pick a school that will meet that states licensure requirements.

A PhD is a degree that is a very individual degree and research intensive, I personally think it is the perfect degree for an online environment as long as you have access to your professors for questions.

I have attended both state universities and online universities and I can only tell from my experience that I have learned much more from my online program than I ever did at state university. I have written more research papers, done more homework, read more books and conducted more research than I ever did at NSU or UNF.

Like anything, research what is best for you and what your needs are. Do not listen to others about diploma mills. yes they exist, but if the school is RA, then they have met the same standards as RA state universities.
